There's a contradiction. You know how in Season 2, Shannon was chasing the figure of Walt?
If the smoke monster said that he could only come in a form of someone who had died, does that mean that Walt had died?
We know for a fact that he didn't die, so how can he take the form of Walt? The most logical explanation is that the one who took the form of Walt wasn't the smoke monster.
